Filament light bulbs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the traditional GLS light bulb shape, to the candle shape and even a golf ball style shape. The shape of a light bulb is designed to fit different styles of light fittings and shades, which opens up all sorts of visual possibilities.

There are also many different types of light bulbs to add to these options, but here we are looking in more detail at the filament light bulbs, which we believe offer real value for money and a wonderful authenticity to your lighting.

What is the difference between a filament light bulb and a regular led light bulb?

Firstly, let us understand in more detail what both LED and Filament mean:

*a light-emitting diode (LED) (a semiconductor diode which glows when a voltage is applied).

* a conducting wire or thread with a high melting point, forming part of an electric bulb or thermionic valve and heated or made incandescent by an electric current.

When you are looking for the best type of light bulb for your premises, you need to look past the aesthetics on occasion and look at the ambience a light bulb will bring to a room, the level of lighting, the longevity of a bulb as well as cost.

On a technical level, where the filaments inside the light bulb are situated and the number of filaments in the light bulb is key to light distribution. Filament LED light bulbs in fact have more than one filament each, as one alone simply would not be enough to produce the amount of light you would need and so most filament light bulbs have over four filaments inside spreading outwards in most cases, whereas standard LED light bulbs may use one larger LED or some smaller LEDs packed together.

The result of this quantity and positioning of the filaments means that regular LEDs only have a 180 degree light angle. Filament light bulbs however, have a far greater range. This means that they can light up the corners of a room better.

Of course the internal workings of a light bulb will not be your only consideration, and if you are looking for design inspiration then please visit our blog ( https://zico.lighting/blog/ ) where you will find stories on how certain light bulbs have transformed the ambience in a room for our clients.
